Abera Biratu is a Mental Health professional who holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing from Addis Ababa University and a Master of Science in Integrated Clinical and Community Mental Health from the University of Gondar (Ethiopia). He is currently a Mental Health Epidemiology doctoral fellow at Addis Ababa University funded by the African Mental Health Research Initiative (AMARI).

Abera has more than five years experience of teaching both theoretical and practical aspects of psychiatry to nurses, midwives and health officers. In addition, he has served as Dean of School of Health Sciences at Madda Walabu Univeristy (Ethiopia). He has published two peer reviewed papers on reputable journals.

His main research interests are in the areas of maternal depression, neuropsychology, and public health. Abera’s doctoral research is focusing on the impact of perinatal depression and micronutrient deficiency during pregnancy on neonatal, infant and maternal outcome.
