The Career Strategy workshop invites participants to think systematically about building their careers. It introduces the factors which can affect career development for researchers, breaking these down into those which can be controlled, and those which cannot - focusing on how to take control of one’s own career to maximise its development. It then encourages participants to plan, set goals, build relationships and alliances, and overcome obstacles on the path to success. The workshop follows a detailed manual which participants complete in a personalised way as they progress through the content (usually guided by a trained facilitator). The course can be run as a half-day or whole-day workshop, or as self-study using the manual and other materials (e.g. presentation slides and notes).
This workshop was developed by internationally reknowned consultant Prof Shelda Debowski, who has deep experience of working in academic settings and training researchers in building their careers. Shelda can be contacted directly through her website shelda.debowski.com.au.
