John Mulinda Kuyokwa is an MPhil research fellow from Malawi funded by the African Mental Health Research Initiative (AMARI). He is currently studying towards a Master of Philosophy in Public Mental Health with the University of Cape Town (UCT). He is a Psychologist. John obtained his Master’s degree in Educational Psychology at the University of Malawi, Chancellor College. He is currently a lecturer at Malawi College of Health Sciences, Blantyre Campus.
John joined the Clinical Faculty at Malawi College of Health Sciences, Blantyre Campus in 2015. He has been lecturing Research methods, Psychology and Management courses. John has experience in working with adolescents with substance use disorders (SUDs) and other mental health issues. His main research interest is to understand mental health challenges of adolescents living with HIV. John’s MPhil research is focusing on: “Prevalence and predictors of alcohol use among HIV positive Malawian adolescents attending selected Anti-Retroviral Treatment clinics in Blantyre, Malawi.”
