Dr. Assegid Negash Tefera has been working at Wolaita Sodo University since 2010 as a member of the academic staff. He has 16 years of experience in teaching Psychology courses to university students, providing counseling services, conducting research, engaging in community service, and supervising and examining MA students’ research papers.
Dr. Negash holds a BA degree in Psychology, an MA degree in Counseling Psychology, and a Ph.D. in Mental Health Epidemiology. He has also attended various training courses and earned certificates focused on research and mental health-related issues.
His research interests center on Common Mental Health Disorders (CMDs) and interventions for university students. Dr. Negash has published articles in reputable journals addressing CMDs and their psychological interventions. These publications report on the prevalence of CMDs, barriers to accessing professional mental healthcare, and explanatory models of CMDs. Furthermore, he has tested the feasibility of Interpersonal Psychotherapy.
Dr. Negash is currently undertaking postdoctoral research with support from AMARI on “Interpersonal Psychotherapy for University Students with Depressive Symptoms: A Feasibility Pilot Randomized Controlled Trial.”
