Lebo J. Molete is a Global Fellow at the Atlantic Institute, based at Tekano Health Equity Programme in South Africa. He is a member of the Global Dementia Experts Panel (GDEP) at Alzheimer’s disease International (ADI). He holds a Master’s degree in Social Policy (Health Policy major) from Oxford Brookes University, UK. Lebo is currently pursuing an MPhil in Public Mental Health at the University of Cape Town as an AMARI Fellow.
Lebo’s current research focuses on the mental wellbeing of caregivers of people living with dementia (PLWD). He has begun another research on developing a regulated Patient and Public Involvement (PPI) framework that is adaptable across contexts. His aim is to promote and mainstream the participation of PLWD in incremental health policy reforms, to improve health outcomes.
As a secondary caregiver to his father who lives with Frontotemporal Dementia, Lebo draws on personal experience to challenge harmful cultural beliefs that perpetuate stigma. He is currently exploring a Community-Oriented Activism (COA) approach to reframe advocacy and health rights in Africa. He is about to publish a children’s book on dementia to support awareness and intergenerational understanding.
