Yohannes Gebreegziabhere

Dr. Yohannes Gebreegziabhere holds a PhD in Mental Health Epidemiology from the College of Health Sciences, Department of Psychiatry, at Addis Ababa University, Ethiopia. Yohannes has extensive experience in teaching, clinical work, and research in sub-Saharan Africa.

Yohannes's PhD research focused on measuring cognition in people with schizophrenia in Ethiopia. In this study, he validated two cognitive measures in people with schizophrenia. From his PhD, he produced six published articles. All the articles were published in Q1 journals, including Schizophrenia Bulletin and Psychiatry Research. His PhD publications have already made a significant contribution to the scientific world, having been cited over 200 times.

Beyond cognitive assessment, he contributed to broader mental health research in Ethiopia through studies on various mental health issues among vulnerable populations. Methodologically, he consistently employs a combination of reviews, qualitative, and quantitative approaches, supported by advanced statistical analysis.

Currently, he is researching the bridging of the literacy gap in cognitive assessment in low-income countries by developing and norming cognitive measures for the assessment of cognition in non-literate populations with schizophrenia in Ethiopia, under the support of AMARI-II.
