Susan Chungu

Susan Chungu is a PhD Candidate in Clinical Neuropsychology at the University of Zambia. She holds a Master of Science in Clinical Neuropsychology and a Bachelor’s Degree in Special Education from the University of Zambia.

Susan is a registered psychotherapist currently practicing at Silver Lining Healthcare Limited, where she conduct psychological assessments and provides therapy to diverse client populations. She also serves as a part-time lecturer at Cavendish University, School of Medicine, teaching Health Behavioural Methods, and has previously been part-time tutor in the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Zambia Part.

Her professional experience spans clinical practice, psychological assessment, research, and teaching, with a strong commitment to advancing mental health and neuropsychological services in Zambia. Susan is actively engaged in community mental health advocacy, frequently delivering educational talks and seminars to raise awareness on psychological well-being.

Her research interests include neurodevelopmental and cognitive disorders, child and adolescent mental health, motor and social cognition, psychosocial interventions, and health behaviour change.

Susan’s PhD research focuses on the association between fundamental motor skills and social-emotional cognition among preschool-aged children in Lusaka, Zambia. The study examines the developmental links between physical activity and cognitive-emotional growth, considering factors such as socioeconomic status, parental involvement, and lifestyle patterns. The overarching goal is to develop culturally adaptable interventions that enhance both motor and social-cognitive outcomes in early childhood.
