This workshop opens the conversation around how best to engage with policy makers (typically government bodies, but also local and international bodies) to enable evidence-based research findings to be translated into practice. Using a combination of interactive lecture, case studies and practical exercises, participants explore strategies for working with policy makers to influence their thinking and guide their decision making. There is also a section on how to write a policy brief, featuring practical examples.
The content is available as an introductory lecture on ‘Introduction to health systems and working with policy makers’ (no webinar recording available), and as materials for a longer, interactive, practical workshop. The introductory lecture was designed and led by Dr Ritz Kakuma of London School of Hygeine and Tropical Medicine, while the practical workshop features material from Dr Walter Mangezi of University of Zimbabwe, and Dr Helen Jack of the University of Washington.
