webinar series - methods & statistics

Factor Analysis

This webinar introduces the statistical technique of factor analysis - a way to analyse variables within a particular construct (for example a survey or scale). Factor analysis allows clusters of observed variables to be grouped, helping us to understand the nature of the underlying (latent) variables which cannot be measured directly. It is an essential tool in scale development and psychometrics.

Dr Sam Norton of King’s College London describes the theory and application of factor analysis, including confirmatory and exploratory analyses, as well as principal component analysis. He works through examples, applying additional techniques such as rotation and Eigenvalues, to fully conduct and interpret a factor analysis. The slides are available to download below and are best used in conjuction with the webinar (duration: 1hr 49m) where Dr Norton talks through the content.
