Harry Henry Kawiya is an AMARI MPhil Alumni from Malawi. He holds a Master of Philosophy in Public Mental Health from the University of Cape Town (UCT) funded by AMARI. Harry also holds a holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Clinical Medicine (Mental Health) from St John of God affiliated to Mzuzu University (Malawi) and a Post graduate diploma in hospital management from Hochshule Neu-Ulm (German). He is a Psychiatric Clinical Officer and has been working at Zomba Mental Hospital the only public referral mental hospital in Malawi since 2010.

Harry’s main research interest is in mental health and clients receiving ART. He has over eight years’ experience in the field of mental health and people living with HIV/AIDS who are receiving ART. He has been managing these clients using the biopsychosocial model.

Harry’s MPhil research focused on missed opportunities to address mental health needs in people living with HIV/AIDS. Mental health disorders are not routinely screened or identified in people living with HIV/AIDS in ART clinics despite many studies having found high prevalence of mental disorders.
