Over the two days of 16 and 17 August 2021, the African Mental Health Research Initiative (AMARI) brought together global mental health researchers, policy makers, health practitioners and scientists at its fourth Annual Scientific Meeting (ASM). In compliance with the COVID-19 regulations the ASM was held virtually on the Zoom platform and was facilitated by Alchemy Inspiration.

The two-day ASM was held under the theme “Celebrating the Next Generation of Mental Health Researchers in Africa.” The theme reiterated one of the conference’s  objectives of celebrating the success of the AMARI programme and its many initiatives. Among these achievements is the training of 47 research fellows in mental, neurological and substance use research in Ethiopia, Malawi, South Africa and Zimbabwe.

23 AMARI post-doc, PhD and MPhil fellows, and one PhD fellow from a sister DELTAS Africa programme - Afrique OneAspire presented at the ASM.
