This webinar, led by statistician Prof Helen Weiss of London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine, teaches participants how to calculate the size of a sample required for a research study. It begins by discussing the principles of sample sizes and why their estimation is important, then goes on to cover the associated concepts of precision, confidence levels, p-values, hypothesis testing, type I and II errors, sensitivity and specificity, and statistical power. Concepts are worked through with practical examples to illustrate key principles, and tips for calculation in Stata software are provided. The webinar is approximatly two hours in duration.
