This workshop gives you the introductory-level skills to be an effective peer mentor. It begins with an introduction to the concept and key principles of mentoring, discusses how mentoring differs from other kinds of developmental relationships (like supervision and coaching), teaches participants how to help others think through problems, offers tools for structuring mentoring sessions, and tips for being a great mentor. The focus of the workshop is on peer mentoring, i.e. mentoring someone who is approximately the same level of experience as you. In the AMARI project, PhD fellows mentored other PhD fellows who were one year behind them in the programme. The course was developed by consultant Alexis Hutson, who has extensive experience working with healthcare professionals and academics.
